Riot is... well, I don't know how to describe it. I probably personally see it as an alternative to both mumble and slack, but others will probably see it as a nice extension to slack or IRC instead of a replacement. Some will see it an alternative to Hangouts or Skype. I don't know. What I do know is that Riot looks very good - and its pace of development is something pleasant to see.
